I have to say we fly every 3 months departing from Charlotte. Two times ago we couldn't get anyone to even look at us when we wanted to order at the back where they sell breakfast sandwiches. Last time we stood at the hostess stand for about 7-8 minutes and couldn't get anyone to look at us or seat us in spite of many empty tables. So we went somewhere else both times. But we've eaten here before so silly us we kept trying. Yesterday, we walked up to the hostess stand. Our waiter immediately greeted and seated us and also fielded questions from other guests simultaneously and politely. Brendan gets five stars. Attentive service, excellent. We had omelettes, the food was very good. Thank you Brendan for a great visit this time, and a shout out to the chefs as well.
Probably the best airport food I’ve had, and I travel a lot. Although they are quite busy, their team is polite and very hospitable. The waiter did a great job taking care of us along with many others. The food was fantastic. Brussel sprouts, Parmesan chicken tenders and a solid burger with fries.
I feel like with airport restaurants, you go in knowing that a 5 star restaurant is a 3 outside of an airport. Similar to everyone else's reviews, I was waiting for a table (when there were many available). It seemed more than a little disorganized for a restaurant, especially one in an airport. You've got to have those running tight. Luckily, my waiter was cool. This doesn't seem to be a common trend based on the reviews. I got my burger and fries in no time. The only negative is there was no sauce left, you can see what was left is in the cup. Thats all they had. For airport food, it was solid.
Best lunch in CLT! for 30 two of us dined on Mushroom, Spinach and Cheese Pizza and a side Garden Salad and still had extra pizza for the plane ride home! The mushrooms on this pizza are fantastic, good crust and well seasoned sauce. Great friendly service from Aleesha! The order took only 20 minutes (probably the time needed to cook the fresh pizza).
We were a bit worried by the previous reviews but had a fantastic experience. Seated quickly, orders came out fast, and food was great - Cobb salad and PBT sandwich with waffle fries. Guava margaritas were excellent.
For an airport, we were pretty impressed. Started by asking the server if it was realistic to be in and out in 40 minutes; she wasn’t wrong. Prompt, courteous, and anticipatory service. The crispy Brussels sprouts (minus the toasty breadcrumbs to be gluten-free) were so, so good. The salmon on the caesar salad was cooked well and flavorful. The truffle chicken sandwich was surprisingly moist and the accompanying Parmesan fries quite tasty.
5 star review with the caveat that this is airport food, airport experience. We were seated quickly even though there was a line, our waitress was warm and attentive. 1897 has a great little market atmosphere, and we were seated in an area that felt open and airy and yet not crowded. The food came quickly, was delicious, and was very reasonably priced for the portion size, especially for an airport. Ordering vegetables/salad is super hit or miss in an airport, but this is a safe place to get something other than typical greasy airport fare. I had a salad and my coworker had the brussel sprouts appetizer (which was huge and, as per her, delicious). Would eat here again when next flying through Charlotte.
Best Shrimp n Grits I have had. Tough to get good shrimp n grits north of the Mason Dixon line where I live in NJ. Last time I was here was 8 years ago and it was just as good this time. Had a 3 hour layover. Wife had the salmon Caesar. Also very good. Quick and friendly service. Clean place. Not cheap. But what do you want, it’s an airport restaurant. Your trapped between flight.
